Paralegal – Arbitration Department

Position Overview

A healthcare organization is seeking a detail-oriented Paralegal to support its Arbitration Department. The Paralegal will work under the direction of the Lead Paralegal and assist legal counsel with the preparation, organization, tracking, and administration of arbitration matters.

The successful candidate will be organized, dependable, comfortable handling sensitive medical and legal information, and capable of managing multiple matters and deadlines in a fast-paced professional environment.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative and substantive support to the Lead Paralegal and legal counsel.

  • Assist with the preparation and processing of arbitration files and supporting documentation.

  • Gather, review, organize, and maintain medical, billing, insurance, payment, and legal records.

  • Prepare correspondence, forms, exhibits, summaries, and other documents for review.

  • Track arbitration matters, filing requirements, deadlines, responses, and case statuses.

  • Maintain accurate electronic and physical files.

  • Review records for completeness and follow up regarding missing information.

  • Coordinate with internal revenue cycle, billing, compliance, and operations personnel to obtain necessary documentation.

  • Communicate professionally with attorneys, insurance representatives, arbitration entities, healthcare providers, and other parties.

  • Assist with document production and submission of required materials.

  • Enter and update case information within internal tracking systems.

  • Protect confidential medical, legal, and business information.

  • Perform legal research and other departmental support duties as assigned.

  • Ensure work is completed accurately and within applicable deadlines.

Qualifications

  • Previous paralegal, legal assistant, arbitration, litigation-support, healthcare-law, insurance, or medical-billing experience is preferred.

  • Paralegal certificate, associate degree, bachelor’s degree, or comparable professional experience is preferred.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to manage multiple cases, priorities, and deadlines.

  • Strong proofreading, document-preparation, and record-management abilities.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic document-management systems.

  • Ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality.

  • Familiarity with healthcare billing, insurance claims, arbitration, or revenue cycle matters is beneficial.

  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with the Lead Paralegal, legal counsel, and other departments.

Hours and Work Environment

This is an on-site position in Melville. The regular schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Employees receive one unpaid 30-minute lunch period and two paid 15-minute breaks.

The organization is open to hiring the successful candidate directly as a permanent employee or beginning the position through a temp-to-permanent arrangement.

Pay Rate: $28–$33 per hour
Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
