Substitute School Nurse - LPN

Position Summary: We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Substitute School Nurse to join our educational team on a part-time or per diem basis. This role is crucial in providing continuity of care for students by stepping in for nurses who are temporarily unavailable. The substitute nurse may serve in various capacities, including as the primary school nurse, accompanying students on field trips, or providing one-on-one care for specific students with special health care needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the school nurse, managing the health office, providing first aid, administering medications, and responding to emergencies.

  • Accompany students on field trips, ensuring access to necessary medical care and interventions as needed.

  • Provide one-on-one nursing care to students with specific health care needs, following their individual health plans (IHPs).

  • Communicate effectively with school staff, parents, and healthcare providers to ensure a coordinated approach to student health.

  • Maintain accurate and confidential health records, documenting care provided and significant health observations.

  • Adapt quickly to different school environments and student needs, demonstrating flexibility and professionalism.

  • Stay informed of current health practices, school policies, and regulations affecting school health services.

Qualifications:

  • Valid LPN license in New York State.

  • Previous experience in pediatric nursing, school nursing, or a related field preferred.

  • CPR and First Aid certification.

  • Strong clinical skills, including assessment, intervention, and medication administration.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, staff, and families.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.

  • Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability in varied nursing and educational settings.

Working Conditions:
