Paraprofessional

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Graduate (or higher level of education)

  • Prior experience preferred

  • Ability to understand and communicate effectively in English with staff and students.

Job Responsibilities:

The Paraprofessional in this role will provide essential support to students with disabilities, ensuring their physical, educational, and daily living needs are met within the school environment. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting students with disabilities in various activities, including feeding, toileting, grooming, dressing, and utilizing special devices.

  • Transporting students to related services within the school premises as needed.

  • Collaborating with teachers to fulfill tasks outlined in students' Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and supporting their educational needs.

  • Assisting in the implementation of behavioral management strategies, following guidelines outlined in students' Behavioral Plans.

  • Actively participating as a valuable member of the educational team.

  • Providing supervision and support to students during activity times, meals, field trips, and school-related events.

  • Demonstrating a thorough understanding of behavioral objectives for each student, offering insights to teachers and therapists.

  • Facilitating smooth transitions between program stations and supporting students' movement during transitions.

  • Attending required in-service training sessions and accompanying students to support service areas as scheduled.

  • Assisting in data collection to support students' progress tracking.

  • Familiarizing oneself with student files, IEPs, and individual student needs and requirements.

  • Assuming responsibility for student and classroom management in the absence of the teacher.

  • Upholding strict confidentiality regarding students in care.

  • Actively fostering a positive and creative work environment.

  • Ability to work with students with disabilities, including educational and physical needs.

Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this position, the employee is expected to:

  • Regularly sit, stand, walk, talk, and hear.

  • Must run, stoop, kneel, grasp, and hold.

  • Engage in regular activities including sitting, standing, walking, speaking, and hearing.

  • Demonstrate the ability to run, stoop, kneel, grasp, and hold as needed.

  • Must be capable of lifting up to and possibly more than 50 - 70 lbs.

  • Occasionally exert force to move items weighing up to fifty pounds, such as wheelchairs or bicycles. This includes the occasional need to take out and replace such items.
